Perfect Roast Thanksgiving Turkey Prep time: 15 Min Cook time: 2 H & 30 M Total time: 2 H & 45 M
Learn how to cook a perfectly moist and flavorful turkey without brining, perfect for the holiday season. In this recipe I use a herb butter to keep the turkey extremely moist and succulent.
Ingredients TURKEY
12 lb turkey, defrosted, rinsed, giblets removed 4 celery stalks, chopped 4 carrots, chopped 2 onions, chopped 1 garlic head, cut in half 1 apple, quartered 1 orange, quartered 2 lemons, quartered Fresh Herbs 1 cup chicken broth or stock 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil salt and pepper Instructions Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Roughly chop the veggies, reserve a handful to stuff the turkey later. Place the rest in the bottom of your roasting pan. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, pepper, and mix. Pour in the chicken stock and set aside. In a small bowl, combine all the herb butter ingredients and mix until well combined. Thoroughly pat the turkey dry with a paper towel. With your fingers, go under the skin and detach it from the meat. Rub the herb butter all over the turkey, including under the skin. Stuff the turkey with the remaining veggies. Place the turkey on top of the veggies and roast for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and baste it well. Cover most of the turkey, especially the breast, with aluminum foil and roast for 1 hour and 30 minutes, basting the turkey every 30 minutes. Cook until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the turkey reaches 170 degrees. Remove from the oven and let it rest entirely covered with aluminum foil for 30 minutes before carving.
